I Stand Corrected

When the iPhone first came out, I could not for the life of me figure out what the big deal was. After all, you need a phone for the occasional call and perhaps text message. But after that, who really cares? It's certainly nice enough for phones to have tricks and extra buttons, but really, not necessary.

Right?

WRONG. For once Yet again, I was wrong.

See, on Saturday night my phone (which doubled as my PDA -- calendar, to do list, address book, email/internet) went swimming in the sink at work. Now I am not extremely well versed in all things technical, but I do know this: Phone + water = bad. As I watched my phone sink into the water, I saw a new phone in my fairly near future. (Helpful hint: don't put your phone in the sink...especially a sink full of water)

So Sunday afternoon after I dragged my sorry butt out of bed woke up, I was forced to go on a little shopping spree. I have had Verizon forever, and have never had much of a problem with them. My service works well, which was all I really needed. But I do love to do what all the cool kids are doing, so I thought that perhaps I should expand my horizons.

I went to the Apple Store.

And then my head exploded from all the technology! And people! And gadgets! And people!

And then I realized that when I said that one phone was just as good as another that I was wrong.

This guy came home with my. No, it isn't the 3G S -- just the regular 3G. But still. It is, by far, every bit as awesome as everyone always said it was.

The only thing that it doesn't do is my laundry -- although heck, there might be an app for that too.

J. waited in line last year while the girls and I were on vacation and I swore I did not need or want an iPhone. But he got me one anyhow...and now seriously, I don't think I can live without it! It is the single most amazing piece of technology...perhaps ever!

Wait til you say for the first time, "I wonder if there is an app that will ...." I've got all kinds of app ideas to make money on!

The things I use a lot: Google Tasks (you can make all kinds of lists!) - it isn't an app, just runs in Safari, and the Amazon app! If you use the Amazon remembers you can just take a pic of a book, or anything at the store and it will find it and remember it in your Amazon account so you can buy it later!! I have all kinds of lists now of ideas for birthdays, books I want to read, etc.

Not too mention all of the addicting games...it is a serious God-send when you are waiting somewhere and you can pass the phone off as entertainment for the kiddies.

Ah...love the iPhone. Congratulations!

No no no...it all sounds too insidious for my Luddite soul. We are INVENTING things that we NEED. Like, have you READ 'Brave New World'????
(and yes, I am totally aware of my own hypocrisy)

Seriously, the best money I ever spent was on my iPhone.

I am so afraid of getting sucked in to this like everyone else around me is. Looks like I've lost yet another friend to the iphone. ;-)

Fun! I bet I'd play with it all the time if I got one. :)

I should get one. I know I should get one. But... I'm scared that it will take over my life....

Our favorite saying around here is "I wonder if there's an app for that?" or "There's an app for that." I can't tell you how many times a day we toss that one around.

We have the sprint version of the iphone. Truly, (don't tell H), I'm not as happy with it as people are with their iphones, but it works just fine for us!

Looks like you have joined the rest of humanity in their awe of the iPhone. ;) I am going to venture a guess that eventually I will bow down to the gods of Apple, but right now I feel like at least some part of my life needs to be disconnected from the Internets.

Hubs has a Crackberry through work (and I'm getting on soon), so I don't see an iPhone in our future. However, when hubs' iPod got a chocolate milkshake bath recently, he replaced it with an iTouch. Same, but no phone. But all the apps are the same! I love the restaurant 8-ball.

Congrats!!!

I like to say "they have an app for that" as a response to anyone's random comment.
