Sunday List #27

I'm not feeling super original at the moment, so this weeks edition of the list will be 5 things that I want to do before I die (not like I plan on that happening any time soon or anything).

1. Go to Europe
2. Get into medical school.
3. Ride in a hot air balloon.
4. Learn to make a really great pie.
5. Run a marathon. Or maybe a half marathon...

So now it's your turn - what would you like to do?

RIP

There are few good surprises that occur at 2:00 am. Very few.

An unpleasant surprise?

Discovering that your refridgerator/freezer has died, and that all the food inside of said appliance has spoiled.

DSCN0844

Please take a moment to mourn the several hundred dollars of uneaten and now spoiled and tossed-out food.

*Silence*

But never fear, all was not lost.

DSCN0845

These little fellas were the only survivors.

I'm quite sure that this only happend because I was planning on having people over for dinner. The last time I had a dinner party, my kitchen sink developed a hole in the drain pipe and flooded the cabinet and kitchen. Approximately 10 minutes before 10 people arrived to eat. Clearly I have excellent timing.

All this fun and I haven't even been to bed yet. I can hardly wait to see what the rest of the day might hold...

Violating the Sacred

There are few things as sacred as the napping hours. Notice, please, that hours is plural, meaning that the napping hours are more than one. As in, usually 3. That's right, I am routinely blessed by the nap gods, and the boys sleep for around 3 hours a day. At the same time.

It's beautiful. Really, it is.

And do you know what is not beautiful? When the napping hours are missing. That event is tragic. Or something worse than tragic. Seriously, it is.

And today was a tragedy in which the napping hours were missing. I don't know quite where they went, but I sure hope that they come back tomorrow. Or it's really going to get ugly around here...

Guilty Pleasures

So I have many guilty pleasures, but this one happens to make me laugh harder than most of the rest.

Beauty and the Geek.

If you have never seen it, I swear that you don't know what you're missing. It's hilarious. They make a point of playing up the geekiness of the geeks, which is hilarious. And they don't do much to play up the brains in the beauties (although there is quite a bit show on their lack of them).

I am probably much more like the geeks than the beauties...but oh well. I'm still not quite as much of a geek as this guy...

Although you never know...maybe there is a great need out there for humans as blenders...

Best Shot Monday

Last week Garrett, Bennett and I got to go to Paradise Park with Lindsay and Lexi -- and we had a GREAT time. One of our favorite things was the ball pit, and it gave me my shot(s) for Best Shot Monday.

I don't know how long it's been since you've been in a ball pit...but I bet you've forgotten how much fun it really is!

Garrett gets the giggles

Bennett in the balls

Lexi in the balls
In case you can't tell, this is the look that says "So this is what I've been missing!"

Sunday List #26

I know, you're probably rubbing your eyes...a Sunday list that is actually out on a Sunday?! Surely your eyes must be playing tricks on you - that's a feat I have not accomplished in several weeks...

But I assure you, your eyes do not deceive - it's true.

And what 5 things might I entertain you with today? Five things I have done this weekend, of course!

1. Paula was in town, so I got to see her and have fun times.

2. This weekend was the Plaza Art Fair -- there are a lot of really talented artists....and a lot of really strange things that people try to pass off as art. But there were definitely very cool things to be seen.

3. I made sugar cookies and icing...and they turned out great! Very delicious, if I do say so myself!

4. Paula was here and we made LOTS of cute cards! I wish I could show you all of them - they are too cute!

5. I did some calculus! I did some calculus! That's right - that small feat bears repeating. Or screaming from the rooftops. Or something. Because we are now 1/4 of the way through the semester and I have finally buckled down to work on that dang blasted subject. Let's just say that December can't come fast enough (and not because I'm excited about my birthday)...

And there you have it...what did YOU do with your weekend?!

Contrary to Popular Belief

...I have not, in fact, dropped off the face of the earth. But, several days late, here is my Sunday List of reasons why I did appear to have dropped off the face of the earth.

1. I am taking 18 hours of upper level courses. All science and math. Clearly I am out of my mind.

2. On Thursday a friend of mine informed me that she was moving to California and putting her things in storage. This weekend. Luckily, I am the master of packing. But sheesh - it was hard work! Not to mention time consuming.

3. My feeble attempts to spend time with or converse with anyone who is over the age of 3.

4. Wine.

5. Going to the gym. Hey, exercise is important - and I can actually do push ups now, aren't you impressed?!

The Biggest Loser

It's like a little slice of heaven. One of my favorite shows - The Biggest Loser - started tonight.

There are severeal reasons that I like this show:
*These peopole work hard - really hard
*It promotes healthy lifestyles
*What's not to love about fat people getting skinny?!

And the selfish reason:
*Seeing someone who outweighs me by a significant amount makes me feel a little better about myself. Hey - I said it was a selfish reason in advance, didn't I?!

But if you haven't ever seen it, then you should check it out -- if nothing else, it is a great motivator to get yourself in the gym!

Things In The News

*The current big debate in St. Louis -- should the white and affluent parents who accidentally left their baby in the car (and the baby died due to the heat) be charged with a criminal offense? Keep in mind that each of them thought that the other would take the baby out of the car, meaning that neither of them knowingly left the child in the car. While this is a horrible thing to have happen, it wasn't on purpose - it was an ACCIDENT. The lack of charges has nothing to do with the fact that they are white or affluent, simply due to the fact that they did not KNOW that the child was in the car. You can read all about it here.

*There is a man who wants to adopt his cousin's baby, who is currently in the MO foster care system. He was apparently rejected due to the fact that he weighs over 500 lbs. So he had gastric bypass surgery and is losing weight. And the courts still will not allow him to adopt the child. I understand that peope who are morbidly obese have health problems that can lead to an early death, but this guy (and his significant other) actually WANT this baby to adopt and rescue from the perils of growing up as a foster child. And yet even after he undergoes major surgery to assist in the weight loss, they still won't let him? I'm not quite sure I understand that. I'm sure there are other factors, but from the way that it sounds right now, I can't quite understand why the child isn't at home with his very wanting (prospective) new parents.

*Need a reason not to go skydiving? How about having trouble with your parachute and landing face first on a parking lot? Sounds like a good enough reason to stay in your plane seat to me - although I have always secretly wanted to go skydiving...just once... That's what happened to this girl - and then she found out she was pregnant. And somehow she AND the baby have survived - talk about lucky! They had an update on her and her now 14 month old son on the Today show.

*Apparently living in the midwest has it's downfalls - I've never heard of (or been to) a water bar. As in a bar that serves only water. Don't get me wrong here, but one of the main attractions of a bar is that they serve ALCOHOL. And I can't possibly be the only one who feels this way. But apparently this woman sells "80 different types of bottled water" - some for up to $55 a bottle! Um...what's wrong with turning on the tap?!

And that is all -- because how can you really top Bling H2O?

Sunday List #23

Since I am currently out of town, this can be the out of town edition of my Sunday List. I'm sure you're all just thrilled to hear it, aren't you?

1. For 40 miles there were signs on the interstate warning of an accident ahead and to expect delays. I'm not sure what type of accident warrents a 40 mile warning, but I was not super excited to find out. So I got off at the last exit before the accident at had the GPS route me a detour....which ended up taking me a completely different way than I have ever been. Which is saying a lot, since I've made the drive between KC and STL approximately 9,634 times. But I took state highways and things for the last 1/3 - and it was beautiful! Not a way I would take every time, but well worth the time I would have spent sitting in interstate traffic.

2. I attended a wedding of a girl I used to be good friends with in high school and college, but who I haven't gotten to see much of in the last few years. Her wedding had everything she always said it would, which I thought was hilarious. And many congrats to her and her new hubby!

3. Being at my parents house causes my dog to glue herself to me at all possible times, afraid that I am going to leave her. While I have never left her here for longer than a few hours, she apparently still has an overwhelming fear that I am going to do so. You would think that my parents and sisters did something other than hold her and feed her treats. But even as I sit and type, she has glued herself to my lap, and only moves her head enough to glare at me if I have the nerve to shift my legs. I do like having a lap dog (most of the time) but this might be pushing it a bit...

4. It is finally not hotter than Hades. I enjoy warm weather as much as the next girl, but it is nice to to feel that I might be able to walk out and fry and egg on the sidewalk. I like my eggs much better when fried in pans anyway.

5. Is anyone else super excited for all the Fall shows to start? Only a few more weeks...
