Digging Out From Boxes

Contrary to what people might think, I haven't actually fallen off the face of the Earth.

I have been moving.

Which, in case you haven't moved in a while, I can tell you is A LOT of work. But being in my new house has been amazing.

It's like coming home when you didn't even know you had been lost.

There is still unpacking to be done and the walls don't have anything hung on them yet, but still. It's home.

And it's wonderful.

Inquiring Minds and Earth Day

First, Happy Earth Day!

Morning Walks (5)
Why yes, that is Garrett. Kissing a tree. Clearly he is very earth centered. Or maybe just weird...you can decide that on your own.

And now for the inquiries!

So I have questions. And because you all are so cool, I'm sure that you have answers. Or at least I sure hope so...

First: Movies

I have Blockbuster Total Access, which I love. But I would love to know what 'must see' movies there are that I haven't seen yet. So tell me all your favorites...because I'm sure I haven't seen them yet!

Second: Blogs

At the moment I use blogger, but I keep debating about making a switch. So, what are your thoughts?

The Business of Being Born

So I just finished watching The Business of Being Born, a movie about home birth and midwifery. I had heard various things about it, and was quite curious to see it myself. I also knew myself well enough to know that I would be best off not going somewhere to watch it within earshot of others.

Honestly, as a movie, I think that it was well done. Did it change the way I feel about things? No. I don't support home birth. Because do you know how many bad outcomes you have to be a part of to feel that way? One. And then forever more, the very mention of home and birth in the same sentence will conjure up immediately the image of a family completely devestated by an outcome that could have been prevented.

Is that the way that all or even the majority of home births go? No, it isn't and I know that most home births are exactly what the participants are looking for. Which is great for them; but their experiences added together still aren't enough to replace the one that springs to my mind.

I'm sure that everyone takes something different from seeing the movie. The thing that stuck out to me the most? They interviewed a physician about his thoughts on home birth, and he said that he felt 'having a home birth is no different than me saying to someone that they don't need a seatbelt in my car because I'm a good driver'. And honestly? I couldn't have said it better myself.

Tramps

The other day I had to go into the post office with the boys. And lest you forget, experiencing the post office with toddlers is a special kind of hell. Seriously. Is there anywhere else that always has a line, that always moves slower than molasses? I didn't think so. We wait in line and I manage to amuse Garrett by having him tell me the Disney move that the pictures on the wall are from. See, there are times when knowing every children's movie on the planet comes in handy.

Which was all fine and good until we get to a movie he hasn't seen. Lady and the Tramp. So I tell him that is the name of the movie. And he informs me that he has a question - a 'very important question'.

You would think this 'very important question' would be "what is that movie about?" Or something simple like that. But you would be wrong. You would be so wrong.

The question? "What's a tramp?!" Which of course was asked in the only volume that toddlers have when asking things that will cause everyone around you to stare inquisitively and wait to listen to your answer. LOUD. I really wanted to believe that no one had even noticed, but that was impossible since everyone literally stopped what they were doing - including the postal workers - to await my response.

And you'll all be glad to know that I totally wussed out. And told him that tramp was the name of one of the dogs. What?! That's not totally wrong, they did call him a tramp...it just didn't happen to be his name...

Who's your Baby Mama?

Perhaps it is only because my brain cells are dying at an alarming rate due to studying whining alcohol life in general, but I thought that this was one of the funniest previews I have seen in a long time. And, as previously mentioned, I LOVE previews.

It should be noted that some people find my taste in movies is questionable. But what, I ask you, is wrong with the fact that I am currently watching Bring It On? For the umpteenth time. And enjoying it.

We all have our guilty pleasures. Stupid movies just happen to be one of mine. What's wrong with that?
