A Little of This, A Little of That

I think that one of my biggest problems with not posting more often is that I don't feel like my day to day life is that exciting. And that if nothing earth shattering happens that it isn't worth a post. But if I subscribe to that theory, I won't have a post more often than every six months.

But I just read Kimberly's most recent post and decided that I rather liked the little snippets. So here's my own version. I'm such a follower. But at least I follow in the footsteps of awesome people. :)

This is what I will be doing for the next six months. Studying for boards. And doing regular school. And working. Because obviously I have a death wish. But seriously...the thought of studying for a test for six months makes me want to throw up just a little. Okay, sometimes a lot.

My sister got me this mug for Christmas, and I find it absolutely hilarious. I laugh every time I see it. And since it makes me laugh, I haven't actually used it yet. I just keep laughing every time I see it in my bag and then I don't want to use it and get it dirty, so I use a different mug. I'm also just a little afraid I'll drop it and break it. And yes, I have heard of that crazy invention that you call dish soap...I've even heard that you could use it to make things that are dirty (like said mug) clean again. Don't ask me why I haven't looked into this further, perhaps by actually using the mug...

I bought myself this little beauty. And I have to admit...I love it. I use it every day. I bought it for two main reasons. The first (and probably largest) was because I wanted one. Hey - at least I can admit it. And second, to study with -- it's small enough that I can fit it in my purse and carry it with me, making board studying able to fill even the smallest snippets of time. Or to use to check my google reader or facebook with...

This is how far I've gotten taking down my Christmas decorations. They are (mostly) boxed up. And stacked in the living room. I just can't bear to take them to store in the garage...okay, or to take down the naked tree. I love Christmas, and I am seriously sad that it's over. I'm not turning on the lights anymore though...I don't want the neighbors to know what a slacker I am...

We have FINALLY gotten our first snow of the year! I don't really like cold weather -- at least not frigid cold weather -- but I LOVE snow. I just think it's so pretty and peaceful. I really don't even mind driving in it, although I don't go out and drive around in it just for fun. But I've never gotten snow days from work, so it isn't like I hide in the house. Okay, so I did stay home from school on Monday and said it was because of the snow. But it was really because I wanted to sleep in and not go to lecture. It's not my fault the people that they had scheduled to lecture weren't any good! Besides, I studied at home, so I think that still counts...right?!

SOOC Saturday -- Snow Day!

The fantastic Melody has returned, and brought with her the return of SOOC Saturday! And since I have been up since the ass crack of dawn bright and early time of 5:30 am, I figure it's more than worth a study break to join in on the fun.

It has been a snowy winter here in the great midwest, much like the rest of the country. And while I get a little tired of all the snow coverage on TV -- because while we don't always get much, it does snow every year multiple times -- I do love how peaceful fresh snow is.

Because really -- doesn't everything look better under a soft blanket of fresh fallen snow?

As Requested: Photo Details

Kimberly asked in the comments, and a few others have emailed me and asked for the specifics on this shot, so here you go:

June 12

Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec.
f/1.8
50mm
ISO 800

And in the interest of full disclosure, I will admit that I was on my way home in the midst of a tornado warning, and had the camera out in an attempt to get a good shot of a rather impressive cloud line in the distance. This shot was taken haphazardly on the highway - I just held the camera up and shot out the windshield - and I really like how it turned out. So there you have it - the details of my lucky shot!

Updates, Bullet Style

Holy cow, I don't even want to THINK about how long it has been since I have posted something that includes actual words and not just pictures. But I'm pretty sure it's been a LONG time. Oops. I'm sure you are all just sitting there and pondering just what is going on in the world of Maggie.

  • It's spring. I LOVE SPRING. I am fairly in love with every season, at least at the beginning until the newness wears off. Truth be told? The rain is beginning to get on my nerves just a little bit already. Hey, I told you I was fickle.

  • My attempt to not look like a total slob involves me donning 'real people' clothes sometimes, even when I'm just running around with the kids. And usually when I do this, I am quickly reminded of why t-shirts are safer. What, you say? You need an example? Yesterday I had on an adorable top. We went to the park, and the kids were happily playing. Sarah was taking pictures, and upon review of said pictures it was discovered that Bennett must have gotten his foot caught in my shirt when I was attempting to keep him from falling on his melon head helping him on the fireman's pole, and I was giving the park a free show, courtesy of my boob popping out of my shirt. And while I might have had a bra on, this is still not the fashion look that I was really aiming for. Luckily I am quite sure that Sarah destroyed this photo, as if she did not she should know that I will kill her. With my BARE HANDS.

  • And while we are on the subject of my being somewhat inappropriately exposed in public, let me tell you about my latest issue. The boys enjoy blowing rasberries on my belly. Our location in public never seems to concern them - apparently it is never a problem to attempt to pull my shirt up as high as possible. Please add to this the fact that I am EXTREMELY ticklish. It's actually quite hard to sound stern and upset when you can't stop laughing. It also quite embarrassing to have your stomach exposed to random groups of strangers. It also might be making said groups of random strangers wish they were blind wish they had stayed home instead.

  • Also, I have an interview. Tomorrow. For school. And the very thought makes me want to curl up in a ball and hide. So don't worry - if you need me, I'll just be over in the corner, rocking back and forth while muttering to myself. Think that will make a good impression? I'm sure admissions committees just EAT UP the sight of their potential students looking like escaped mental patients.

And that is what has been new around here. Public exposure, interviews, and rain. Bet you didn't think that those could all get tied into one post!

April Showers Bring May Flowers

I am confident to state that spring is finally here. Especially since the tornado sirens went off for a big chunk of the night last night...nothing says spring in the midwest quite the like the return of the storm season. Oh goody.

Along with the storms we have had a TON of rain, which has served to both annoy the bejeebus out of me and also make everything green and pretty. So here are some of the pretty things from around here...proof that, while I had my doubts, spring did manage to arrive after all...
